Turn the world blue for World Children's Day

20th November, 2020

World Children’s Day is an annual event which has been taking place since its creation in 1925, a day for children, ran by children. The aim of the day is to help save children’s lives, fight for their rights, raise awareness about struggles children are facing and help them fulfil their potential.

Wondering how you can get involved with World Children’s Day? There are lots of activities you can do together as a family to celebrate this special day, including letting the children run the house for the day! There will be many children across the world given permission to oversee schools, businesses, run flagship events, but what could be more important than being the boss of the house.

By allowing them to be the boss for the day, you are emphasising the importance of the day and the importance of children. Throughout the day, you could schedule in some learning time with your children where you can explore the history of World Children’s Day and why it was created. You can view child friendly information about the day here.

It is your day to celebrate however you like but here are a few suggestions:

  • Go for a family walk outside – let your children take the lead and follow their directions.
  • Allow your children to plan the daily schedule – eg. Choosing what you have for your dinner, what movie you watch together or even choosing how the whole family dresses for the day!
  • Turn your home blue – All over the globe national buildings will be turning blue to mark World Children’s Day, you could decorate your home in your favourite blue items.
  • Listen to your children – This may sound like a simple activity, but it is important to take some time out from your busy schedule and allow your children to talk about whatever is on their minds, especially on a day which is dedicated to children.

We hope you have a wonderful day celebrating World Children’s Day, we would love to see how you and your family celebrated this special day. You can share your updates here.
