Skills to Foster

Start Training  

Training to become a foster carer starts as soon as you apply to become a foster parent.

Your training starts with our Skills to Foster course. This course generally runs over two to three sessions. You will have the oppportunity to meet members of our team along with approved foster carers. You can find out what’s really involved in looking after children who are in care and have the opportunity to learn with others who are going through the application process.

The Skills to Foster course covers areas of development including:

  • What foster carers do
  • Understanding the needs of children in foster care
  • Safe-caring
  • Helping children to deal with change
  • Managing challenging behaviour
  • Working with children who display sexualised behaviour
  • Preparing for Panel
  • First Aid

This fostering course is delivered with help from our experienced carers.
