Fostering in Lewisham
There are children and young people all over the South London area who, for whatever reason, can’t live with their parents or families. They rely on vital fostering services provided by FosterCare UK and our team of foster carers. The numbers change from day to day but one thing remains the same: there are more children needing fostering than there are foster parents to provide the safe homes they so desperately need.
Have you every thought about fostering in Lewisham? If you have then we want to hear from you. FosterCare UK is an independent foster care agency and we provide essential fostering services to Lewisham borough local authority. Working in the South East of England we’ve had the pleasure of working with amazing people who have gone on to change the lives of children and young people in need and we want you to join our team. We’re especially excited to hear from those looking to undertake a parent and child fostering placement.
You might have previously asked yourself the question “can I foster?” – well the answer is yes! Almost anyone can be a great foster parent no matter your age, gender, race, religion or whether you’re LGBT we want you to think about becoming a foster carer. It’s more important to us that you have a caring heart, a sense of humour and have a spare room in your home.
Starting your journey to become a foster carer may seem daunting, but it’s a lot easier than you might think and we’ll be there to support you throughout the process. All you need to do is contact our South London office – via phone or through our website.
We will then visit you in your home to complete a Form F Assessment. This makes sure that you have everything you need to be a great foster parent and that your living situation is suitable to take on a child or young person. It’s essential that you have a spare room but love, a family atmosphere and patience are a great bonus too!
Once you’ve completed your Form F Assessment you’ll be assigned a supervising local social worker who will work with you throughout the rest of the process – which usually takes around six months. They will be able to provide you with even more information, provide support and answer any questions you have about becoming a foster carer and taking on a foster child.
Our South London fostering team will also be on hand to support you through this process. They’ll be there to provide training and advice on how best to care for foster placements at any time during and after the fostering application process. You’ll even have a chance to meet our existing foster carers who will share their experience with you.
If fostering in your area is something you feel you want to do, we urge you to get in touch with our London Office. If you foster in Lewisham you’ll be offering and incredible service to child and young people in dire need of care – contact us today.
