FosterCare UK Carer nominated By Olympian Boxer Nicola Adams

4th December, 2020

Our amazing carer Chris, from Thanet, has been nominated as a ‘Next Gen Trailblazer’ by Olympic boxer Nicola Adams. The project which was launched by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as part of Black History Month aims to celebrate those who have made a real difference in their local community.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex compiled a list of Next Gen Trailblazers and each of the Trailblazers were able to nominate their own choice to be included on the list. Our fantastic carer, Chris was chosen by Olympian Nicola Adams for his effort in Kent area. When asked why she had chosen to nominate Chris to be added to the list, she said:

“Over the last 20 years Chris has been running boxing clubs in the Kent area where recreational activities are somewhat limited, to encourage young people who are at risk of engaging in negative behaviours to have a place to go where they matter and they have something to channel their energy.”

Chris who has been fostering for 20 years with FosterCare UK has always had a love for caring for children and young people and making a difference in their lives. He has been able to accomplish this by being a dedicated foster carer with his wife Nicola, as well as setting up the Hornets boxing club which he runs in his spare time.

Chris said: “The best thing about being foster carers is seeing the positive changes in the children and young people we care for. It is also amazing to see that with our help they have turned out to be well-rounded people.

“When I came to Thanet, I was looking for something extra to do and started working at then the Broadstairs Boxing Club and I have been involved ever since.

“I started the Hornets club about nine years ago and we have been at Haine Road for five years now after the committee persuaded me to go for it. We have about 70 regulars but are restricted now because of Covid so sessions are a maximum of 18.”

When the ‘Next Gen Trailblazers’ list was launched, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said the people were chosen for their cause-driven work, creating a legacy for the next generation of Brits. From everyone here at FosterCare UK, we are so proud and inspired by the work Chris has achieved in his local community and the difference he and his wife Nicola have made to so many children and young people’s lives.
