What is therapeutic fostering?
Each young person comes into foster care with complex needs. Our safe, high quality foster placements play a critical role in valuing, supporting and encouraging our very vulnerable and traumatized children and young people to grow and develop their individual potential.
Historically there has been a reliance on local Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services to provide the specialist therapeutic assessments and interventions which many young people in care require. Local authorities and Independent
Fostering Providers are acutely aware in the current economic climate of the lack of nationally available resources for CAMHS to provide a timely and comprehensive assessment.
How do FosterCare UK intend to ‘Make a Difference’?
At FosterCare UK we want our children and young people to succeed. We want to be proactive, by providing our children and young people and their carers’ with an adaptive, timely, responsive clinical service, based on their needs at any point in their placement.
How will we do this?
We have created our own specialist Multi-Disciplinary Assessment & Treatment Team. The service is clinically led by a Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist. The professionals within our team are all highly qualified and skilled with extensive experience working in CAMHS, the NHS, Education and the private sector. They are all professionally accredited and abide by their professional associations’ codes of practice and conform to FosterCare UK’s policies and procedures. The clinicians have their own regular peer group supervision.
Who will access this therapeutic service?
Where possible, the Clinical Lead will be involved in the referral process and agree jointly with the Registered Manager the suitability of each child or young person’s placement to be accepted onto the Therapeutic Fostering Service.
