Training and Development

At FosterCare UK we recognise that the needs of children in care will change over time. With this in mind, we actively support and promote the continuous professional development of our staff and foster carers.  Professional development for individual staff is established and delivered via regular supervision and a dedicated learning and development focus. We are able to recruit staff with a high level of experience and competence and they are encouraged to further their own development.

Foster carers are recruited within safe and competent policies and procedures.  Approval of foster carers is a rigorous assessment of potential such that we have a clear understanding of approved carer induction and continuous development.   Our supervision systems support and empower foster carers in undertaking the fostering task to the highest level and understanding how best to support each child or young person matched and placed with them.

We provide "child focused" training and development courses, delivered by expert practitioners. The training role is undertaken by one of our partner organisations Skills4Learning with whom FosterCare UK Ltd have a Service Level Agreement.  Further specialist training is provided to foster carers on an individual basis or within small groups.

All training complements and underpins the CWDC Training, Support and Development Standards for Foster Care. These standards have been designed to support foster carers from approval through the first two years of service. They give FosterCare UK a framework for carers training and professional development which ensures foster carers recieve the highest standard of training, information and knowledge to ensure we have a highly skilled and competent foster care base.

The FosterCare UK training programme outlines the courses that will be delivered over the first twelve months of a foster carers approval. It is a requirement that all foster carers attend this training and development programme.

To ensure choice for participants, training takes place at venues across London and the South East.

We also work closely with Skills4Learning to ensure that foster carers are able to complete the Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care and further advanced training after the above has been completed.
