The Future of Fostering Services Conference

In the last ten years fostering services have grown rapidly with a focus on providing all children, who are able, to live in a family environment, where we know outcomes are better.

Almost a quarter of children are placed with independent fostering providers, a number that has continued to increase year on year for the past five years. At the same time the demands placed on foster carers and services, with more children with challenging behaviour being placed, increasing training requirements and strict regulation of the sector, have grown.

The Children and Young Persons Act sets out measures and pilots to attempt to tackle some of these challenges. With an emphasis on achieving permanence and placement stability, a huge focus has been put on excellence in commissioning and workforce development. Regional commissioning pilots were announced as well as the implementation of the CWDC foster skills framework. These are not new measures as many Local Authorities and Providers are implementing best practice in these areas, but the new Act does provide fostering services with a further incentive to achieve excellence in the care that they provide for children.

This conference will explore the future of fostering services from a commissioning and workforce agenda and, through leading expert speakers, will draw from examples of best practice from across England.
